3. Artist Bio / Statement:
Howdy! I'm a photographer from southeast Houston and have been living around here my whole life. Professionally, I've done both automotive and real estate photography, which is quite rigid and confined. With my personal work, I aim to take a looser approach and hopefully convey the vision inside my head directly into each photo. The results are often images I might not use in my professional portfolio, but nonetheless work that I love and satisfies my soul.

I took this photo slightly after sunset when I was hanging out with a friend who works at a ranch. The sky was indigo, and only a few residual rays of light were lingering above the horizon. I took a dozen or more photos, and let them mull around in my phone for months, editing them in countless different ways. I randomly came back to this one at 4 am, and settled with the otherworldly colors it has now.

Shutter drag is one of my favorite techniques to use, but it's hard to find new situations where it actually looks cool. I was sitting on my roof taking pictures of the sky, when I noticed my exposure time was the perfect length to utilize it. I thought sideways movement looked best, and in my editing tried to emphasize the painterly, watercolor-esque look it already had.
