My name is Tyler Treviño and I am a 19-year-old artist from Houston, Texas. My work explores the complex nature of community and the ways human connection shapes—and is shaped by—larger social and political systems. My primary mediums are oil paint, acrylic paint, and zines.

My practice is often driven by my desire to understand how people coexist. I am especially drawn to moments of tension or solidarity within activist groups. I examine how systems of power impact individuals, how culture is built collectively, and how conflict can either fracture or reinforce relationships.

Growing up in Houston has gifted me an overwhelming appreciation for the ways people build and maintain small communities in a big place. My work often blurs the line between personal and political, reflecting on how small, interpersonal interactions ripple outward. I aim to hold a mirror to the communities that hold us and the ones that we fight to create.

War Baby is a painting inspired by current events and literature. The piece serves as a social commentary, addressing the impact of war on children and the troubling reality of child soldiers fighting battles rooted in adult conflicts.

“We can not fight for our rights and our history as well as future until we are armed with weapons of criticism and dedicated consciousness.”
